To install VirtualBox, do
   sudo apt-get install virtualbox-3.1

Note: Ubuntu users might want to install the dkms package (not available on 
Debian) to ensure that the VirtualBox host kernel modules (vboxdrv, 
vboxnetflt and vboxnetadp) are properly updated if the linux kernel version 
changes during the next apt-get upgrade. The dkms package can be installed 
through the Synaptic Package manager or through the following command:
   sudo apt-get install dkms

synaptic Suchindex aktualisieren (http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Synaptic#Suchindex-aktualisieren):
    sudo update-apt-xapian-index 

Die Konfiguration der VirtualBox ist in folgender Datei gespeichert: 
/home/benutzer_name/.VirtualBox

Nach einer Aktualisierung von VirtualBox müssen die Gasterweiterungen neu installiert werden. 
Um Gemeinsame Ordner nutzen zu können, müssen die Gasterweiterungen installiert sein. 
Nur die proprietäre Version verfügt über die Funktionalität, auf USB-Geräte zugreifen zu können. 
Nach einem Kernel-Update müssen auch die Kernel-Module von VirtualBox neu eingerichtet werden, da sich das Programm ansonsten nicht starten lässt-

How to register and load a downloaded image

 1. Uncompress the archive
 2. Run registerimage, by typing java -jar registerimage-2.0.jar or by double 
 clicking on it; now you can use the GUI to add a new virtual image to your 
 VirtualBox
 PS: Remember to download the latest version of registerimage from here and 
 remember to install the Java Virtual Machine (version >=6).
