Force a password store
Chromium uses a password store to store your passwords and the Chromium Safe Storage key, which is used to encrypt cookie values. [13]

By default Chromium auto-detects which password store to use, which can lead to you apparently losing your passwords and cookies when switching to another desktop environment or window manager.

You can force Chromium to use a specific password store by launching it with the --password-store flag with one of following the values [14]:

gnome, uses Gnome Keyring
kwallet5, uses KDE Wallet
basic, saves the passwords and the cookies' encryption key as plain text in the file Login Data
detect, the default auto-detect behavior
For example, to force Chromium to use Gnome Keyring in another desktop or WM use --password-store=gnome, see #Making flags persistent for making it permanent.

When using a password store of another desktop environment you probably also want to unlock it automatically. See GNOME/Keyring#Using the keyring and KDE Wallet#Unlock KDE Wallet automatically on login.

Switch to basic for the password store
basic is chrome's builtin password storage, but it stores password's in plain text.
This is why chrome defaults to using the Ubuntu keyring. They store password encrypted.

To set it to default to use basic try this
copy the google-chrome.desktop file from /usr/share/applications into your home folder applications folder:

cp /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop ~/.local/share/applications
then open gedit (you can open it dircly with the following command:

gedit ~/.local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
in gedit Find each of the lines that begin with Exec and add --password-store=basic like so

Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable --password-store=basic %U
then save and now when you launch chrome you should never be asked for your keyring.

The name of the file seems to have changed (perhaps LinuxMint spcific):
from
   ~/.local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
to
   ~/.local/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop
